Interesting Architecture: Chez Riz

Seen on Lamespotting Fredericton Blog This building is one of downtown Fredericton’s oddest. It looks like they just filled in an alley with a building. It’s so narrow that the front door is actually in the building next door. The arch style is also not common in Fredericton, it is more commonly seen in European buildings.

Seen on Lamespotting Fredericton Blog On July 6th 2009, CTV Atlantic used this as their “viewer photo of the day” for the weather report: Yes, that’s exactly what you think it is, a bunch of kids dancing around a dead whale that washed up onto the beach.

Software Engineering: Dead?

From the Coding Horror Blog

I was utterly floored when I read this new IEEE article by Tom DeMarco (pdf). See if you can tell why.

My early metrics book, Controlling Software Projects: Management, Measurement, and Estimates [1986], played a role in the way many budding software engineers quantified work and planned their projects. In my reflective mo

Meta Is Murder

From the Coding Horror Blog Are you familiar with the term "meta"? It permeates many concepts in programming, from metadata to the <meta> tag. But since we're on a blog, let's use blogging to explain what meta means. If you've read this blog for any length of time you've probably heard me rant about the evil of blogging about blogging, a.k.a. met

Interesting Architecture: 198 York St.

Seen on Lamespotting Fredericton Blog Now, this building hasn’t been built yet so it may very well change from this proposal.  Its style is certainly unique, especially for Fredericton. If you look beyond the the style you’ll notice that the apartments are each on 2 levels. They put the living rooms on top of each other and there will be o

The Power of Amplification

Like it or not, our lives, all of our lives, are being amplified more than ever.  Run a red light and a red light camera takes your picture and sends you a nice little ticket.  Make a comment at lunch and good or bad it ends up on Twitter.  Even who you "friend” on Facebook [...]

Improving the Streetscape: 355 Queen St.

Seen on Lamespotting Fredericton Blog The building at 355 Queen St. in Fredericton recently got a substantial facelift. It’s a wooden-framed building whose before picture shows a worn-out pressed tin facade. In the after shot, you’ll see they replaced the tin with stucco. As you can see, they didn’t try to make it a “fake herita
