Background Checks What are my rights?

If you’re applying for a job, or want to keep one, you’re going to have to accept that background checks are becoming a part of work life. In the Information Age, employers can get their hands on a LOT of personal information about you the employee or job applicant. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have rights. Federal and state laws exist to protect your privacy from overly-inquisitive employers.

Take your mobile off the grid… (TreeHugger)

Is Confidence Fickle?

In this weeks podlet, I talk about the idea of "false confidence" and the illusion that we often feel that we are in control, when really we are not.
So, in the end is confidence really something that is usefull? How can we tell the difference if we are truely confident about something or falsely confient about something. Here are some of my thoughts.

Coffee Change By David Blaine

The first time I watched David Blaine was a couple of years ago, it was a TV show on Fox. He does some very interesting street magic, and seems to enjoy putting himself in various 'show off' positions for the entertainment of others. I was happy to have found that he also uploads some of it to the web. Here's a clip I hope you enjoy.

Watch out if passing pagerank for money

Link Popularity vs. PageRank vs. Yoda

Google is restricting page rank? I don't think this is really new, it was just a matter of time. I think the articles here make a good point. I certainly would not want to be confused when researching something I know nothing about by possible misleading ads. I would be interested to know how many advertisers that pay for posts, actually expect to pass page rank. Not all pages in a blog have high PR, and the PR number on the toolbar isn't real anyway. The highest PR is usually it's just the main page. Once I've written say 20 entries, there isn't really any more google juice being passed is there?

What do you do when your computer breaks?

I'm still getting used to not being the go to person whenever a computer breaks down. I remember the days well, and how reliant we are on these little pieces of silicon.

Rumor has it that NASA spent millions of dollars trying to invent a pen that could write upside down to be used in Space. Though in Russia they had a much cheaper and easier solution..they used a pencil

Random numbers in Java

This is an interesting expirment with pseudo-random numbers and javascript. Although, I am not a math geek myself. I suggest the randomness in javascript is highly related to the seed that is used and the use of modulus. Some seeds will produce better psuedo randomness then other seeds. One think I am curious about, are these findings limited to just the last number returned? and is the length/precision of the number returned always the same? It would seem that different length doubles would not be required to follow a random distribution

Fredericton Bus Route on Google

Fredericton Transit has added bus schedule information to google maps. So you can easily get bus directions in Freddy Beach from Google. It's even possible to see the bus route via satellite image. Sometimes it even shows the cost savings from taking the bus via driving which was pretty cool. However, like other Google Maps directions, I found some of it a bit misleading. For example, the walking directions to the nearest bus stop were not correct. I know the bus travels down my street, but it suggested I walk to another street to catch the bus. Unless they are moving my route maybe? Enjoy. Read More... http://www.bwebcentral.com/blog/2/657
