David Thorne Driving His Landlord Crazy | Standard Madness
A stumble too late! Just last week, I was quite upset, a person accused me of things that i did not do, it was very frustrating.
I wish I had seen this post first, it would have made for a much more interesting conversation!

Remembering Jim Rohn
The world lost a great leader and a great man this week with the passing of Jim Rohn. Jim was a giant in our industry, but more than that he was someone that you were grateful you could follow, and someone who made you believe you could become and achieve more than you ever thought [...]

Email: The Variable Reinforcement Machine
How often do you check your email per day?
Does checking your email make you more productive or less productive?
Oh, sure, we delude ourselves into thinking we're being extra-productive by obsessively checking and responding to our email, but in reality we're attending too frequently to our own desire for gratification and
The smartest person in the world is Michael Tienken - not
So one day, just for fun I googled the Smartest Person in the World, and the top number one result for the smartest person was Mic Tiekin.
He's not really the worlds smartest person though. But I did find it very interesting that he managed to get number one rankings for the text of The Smartest Person in the World.
He claims to be an SEO guru, yet his PageRank is only 3 for the text of The Smartest Person in the world, so I was curious what would happen if I added his site to my free site for the worlds smartest person
So now, if someone does a specific search for the smartest person in the world, what would happen?

Teaching Kids to Respond vs. React
"How did you kids learn how to RESPOND rather than REACT?" Shoshannah
Shoshannah, we kids learned by example, and by reminder! I think most people, especially when they are kids, have a tendency to react when things don't go their way. I can remember numerous occasions growing up when Dad would get "bad" news that would impact our family plans. It could have been rain on a vacation day, or a delayed flight, or whatever, but every time Dad always immediately focused on what we could do. I didn't realize it at the time, but now I see that he was showing us that sometimes negative things happen, but those things don't have to ruin our day, and we have that choice.

9 Ways Marketing Weasels Will Try to Manipulate You
I recently read Predictably Irrational.
It's a fascinating examination of why human beings are wired and conditioned to react irrationally. We human beings are a selfish bunch, so it's all the more surprising to see how easily we can be manipulated to behave in ways that run counter to our own self-interest.
This isn't

If It Looks Corporate, Change It
Are you familar with happy talk?
If you're not sure whether something is happy talk, there's one sure-fire test: if you listen very closely while you're reading it, you can actually hear a tiny voice in the back of your head saying "Blah blah blah blah blah...."
A lot of happy talk is the kind of self-congratulatory promo

Have You Met Your Dog, Patches?
The Gamasutra article Dirty Coding Tricks is a fantastic read. One part of it in particular rang true for me.
Consider the load of pain I found myself in when working on a conversion of a 3D third person shooter from the PC to the original PlayStation.
Now, the PS1 has no support for floating point numbers, so we were doi
